If you’d like to start or return to third level education this September you still have time to apply for degree programmes at IT Sligo, whether you applied through the CAO earlier this year or not.
The Available/Vacant Places system provides opportunities for students on courses which remain unfilled after all offers have been made and the waiting lists of applicants meeting minimum entry requirements have been exhausted.
A number of our programmes in the areas of accounting, archaeology, art, business, computing, design, engineering, performing arts and science still have places available. For a full list click here.
Student Affairs Manager Gerry Hegarty is encouraging interested students to explore their options; “The Available/Vacant places system is operated by the CAO and provides great opportunities in a wide range of courses.
“People sometimes think that if they’re not in the system at this stage in the year, they’ve missed the boat for another year but there’s still time to get aboard,” he said.
Northern Ireland Students
Students in Northern Ireland who have recently received their A level results still have time to apply for a place on at Institute of Technology, Sligo.
As well as tthe CAO Available/Vacant Places procedure, which allows students to apply for courses which have not yet filled applications for a number of specific courses are also welcome from students who hold AVCE and BTEC qualifications in cognate subjects. All qualifications offered at the Institute are recognised on the National Framework for Qualifications (NVQ) opening opportunities for students to transfer credits internationally. IT Sligo also offers international exchange with the United States and up to 100 Erasmus internships annually.
The Department of Employment and Learning (NI) have confirmed that students who commence higher education in the Republic of Ireland before 2013 will continue to be eligible for financial support under existing arrangements.
Students from Northern Ireland commencing their undergraduate studies this year are eligible for a grant of €2,250 to cover the Student Contribution Charge. A means tested (non-repayable) bursary for living costs of up to £2,000 stg may also be available. All students can also apply for a student loan.
