Brandon Billingsley – BEng (Hons) in Robotics and Automation
Name: Brandon Billingsley
From: Donegal
School: Abbey Vocational School, Donegal Town
I’ve always had an interest in the way things work. My dad is a mechanic who works out of the garage at the back of our house so it’s easy to see where I get my passion for engineering. I also loved computing and coding but I did not want to sit at a desk and code all day by studying computer science. I wanted to apply that knowledge to the real world and this is the perfect degree for that.
Any part of the degree that gives us a problem and we have to find a practical solution to said problem is brilliant. My favourite degrees so far have been Introduction to Robotics, Image Processing and Digital Electronics. The degree can be challenging, but in a good way. If you want to work and be an engineer then it is the perfect course for you to put that effort in and feel great about it afterwards.
I have thankfully secured work placement in an Abbotts plant in Donegal Town close to my home for my Year 3 placement. I’ll be interning as a Business Intelligence Engineer which was exactly what I was aiming for before entering this degree, so I am beyond happy with the opportunities I have gained within ATU Sligo.
