Tell us a little bit about yourself and what led you to choose your course
Since I was a young boy, I have always had an interest in numbers and calculations. This then helped me open my eyes to wanting to find a career in accounting. Doing the accounting course has many benefits; not just in accounting but in life itself. Since starting my course, I have already learned several new things and I can’t wait to learn more.
Why did you choose ATU Sligo?
I chose ATU Sligo because Sligo has always felt like a second home to me as I have many family connections in Sligo. It is also within driving distance and is very handy for transportation. ATU Sligo itself has high-quality facilities and especially the accounting course offers the highest Exemptions in Professional CAP 1 Accounting exams.
What advice would you give someone thinking about choosing ATU Sligo?
I would tell them they made the right choice as ATU Sligo has so much to offer in all different aspects but especially in sports as I can say first hand I have benefited so much from it.
Do you like Sligo as a student town? e.g. things to do, food, nightlife, clubs and societies, accommodation etc.
Sligo has many things to do ranging from the cinema to restaurants, golfing, nightclubs and many more. I enjoy the nights out as everybody is so friendly and it is very interesting meeting new people.
What specifically about your course do you particularly enjoy?
I enjoy the calculating aspect of my course as I have an urge to work out calculations and enjoy math very much.
What would you say to a student thinking about studying your course?
I would tell them not to worry if they didn’t do or like the Leaving Cert accounting course as the course covers much more topics such as management accounting, law and many more.
Tell us about your sporting career/success so far?
I play for Leitrim u20 and Melvin Gaels Seniors. I am currently training with the Leitrim Seniors and will be playing my last year of u20 next year. Since I have started playing for ATU Sligo Freshers we have beaten ATU Galway and had a massive game against a strong NUIG team and ended up with a draw. From there we are going into an All Ireland quarter-final in the A division and are hoping to have some silverware by the end of the year. I have played in the Connacht minor championship and have gone head to head with some of the best counties in the country. My team won the county minor championship in 2018 and went on to represent my club and county in the Connacht minor championship.
What is the best thing about sports and sports facilities at ATU Sligo?
The sports facilities are of very high quality and are top of the line. It is very impressive how high standard it is and I am very lucky to be able to use it.
How has the sports scholarship benefited you? What are its advantages of it?
The sports scholarship has benefited me by helping me pay for my college fees and help pay for my petrol money from driving up to the campus every day. I also benefit from the free gym membership and free sports clothing. I am very grateful.
