The local final of the Newstalk 106-108fm Student Enterprise Competition takes place in IT Sligo tomorrow, Thursday December 2nd, from 3pm to 6pm.
Now in its fifth year, the competition is designed to foster a spirit of enterprise among third level students and develop their understanding of business management, with a view to cultivating early-stage entrepreneurship.
Using a case study format, the competition encourages participants to research companies and, as part of a team, devise solutions to ‘real life’ business scenarios.
Four teams will present their analysis of the case study to a panel of local judges in IT Sligo including John Ferrick (Sligo Champion), Des Forde (Verus Precision) and Marie Moran (IT Sligo).
Ann Higgins, Head of Department of Marketing, Tourism & Leisure at IT Sligo, commented: “Given the altered economic reality, the need to foster and support the spirit of entrepreneurship is even greater. Ireland can no longer rely on others to provide the stimulus for economic activity, as a nation we must move from being adopters to adapters. This competition provides an invaluable opportunity for cultivating an entrepreneurial identity and examining the managerial challenges facing those who dare risk. It’s great to see teams from a range of disciplines including International, Business and Humanities, and Engineering students taking part.”
