Three IT Sligo accounting students received prestigious recognition from one of Ireland’s leading accountancy bodies, the Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CPA). The Bachelor of Business Studies, Accounting, students received the special Merit Award from the CPA in recognition of their achievements in the Financial Accounting module of the degree.
Alan O’Rourke and Aveen Kelly both from Sligo and Marguerite Jennings from Carrick-on-Shannon were required to record themselves teaching specific questions from past Leaving Certificate accounting exam papers. The recordings are now available as a free online learning resource for all Leaving Certificate students.
Ciara Murphy, Marketing Executive with the CPA said, “The standards expected by both the CPA and IT Sligo are very high and on behalf of the CPA Institute I would like to congratulate Marguerite, Aveen and Alan on their great achievement.”
Caroline McNulty, Lecturer in Accounting, commented at the prize-giving, ‘Our aim in IT Sligo is to always promote independent learning and the essential skills that enable students to confidently communicate and disseminate information and it is fantastic to see such a high standard among our accounting students. We are delighted to work with the CPA in identifying the recipients of this year’s awards and look forward to their continued support.
The Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland (CPA) is one of the main Irish accountancy bodies with in excess of 5,000 members and students. The CPA designation is the most commonly used designation worldwide for professional accountants and the Institute’s qualification enjoys wide international recognition.
