Willie Gormley has been appointed as IT Sligo GAA club’s new senior football manager for the 2015/16 season.
Willie, who’s originally from Bunninadden, guided Tubbercurry to the Sligo senior football club championship title in 2014 – and took up his new managerial role with the Institute in October.
He is also a former IT Sligo student having studied Computing here from 2000-2002.
Commenting on his new appointment, Willie said: “I had a very enjoyable three years with Tubbercurry but this role (IT Sligo) is a new experience and something different for me. I was in college here myself so I’m looking forward to it.”
“I think we will have more Sligo players involved with the team this year than in previous years,” he added. “Mind you, the fact that I’m a Sligo man doesn’t guarantee that they’ll be picked either.”
The IT Sligo senior team made a winning start to the new season last Thursday with a 2-15 to 2-10 victory against Athlone IT in their opening Group D fixture in Division 1 of the Higher Education Senior Football League.
